At 700m mobile telephones, India now has an entire swathe of population that went straight past the landline phone…remember that much coveted, so hard to get, completely entangled in bureaucracy and red tape device – the MTNL or it’s earlier avatar of Phone. And now this same giant population will leapfrog into the future with 3G and 4G. They will never experience the “Internet” the way we did…through dial-up or broadband, on devices like desktops and laptops…they will be Mobile and Internet connected directly, and never even know that another, darker, less advanced age even existed. It’s like when we to talk to teens today who have been born and now bred on multi-channel television, mobile telephony and social networking – they just can’t fathom just how we spent our time, stayed connected, consumed entertainment…even 10 years ago.
The future rushes into our lives…faster, higher, better. I really look forward to it. All that nonsense of the good, old days is exactly that – nonsense. It was good for only a privileged few. Now, advances in medicine, communication, even old world industry like construction and infrastructure promise to make our lives so much better.
The great new future will be inclusive, expansive and incredible. And the McDonald’s slug-line really captures it for a giant mass – “I’m lovin’ it”. They sure are 🙂
